Which operating system is best for my business?

Windows or Linux hosting?

When hosting a website or web application (database-driven), a business often needs to decide which operating system platform to use.

A simple website or web application can run on both the Windows and Linux platforms. So, the real decision lies in the cost of web hosting. Windows hosting generally costs more than Linux hosting as most applications that run on the Windows environment are paid. In addition, there is a wider choice of supported applications available on Windows than on Linux. Windows applications generally use more disk space and memory.

Complex applications can run on only one platform i.e. Windows or Linux because they are written for that platform only. In such cases, the developer of the application will clarify which system requirements are needed to run the application. It is important to check with the hosting company whether those requirements are supported or not, before choosing the platform.
